Melika Hashemi

Mélika Hashemi (B.A., M.Ed.) is an Artist-Researcher based in Kitchener, Canada. She uses art as a device to find ways to renew intersectionality and empowerment through the curriculum beyond screens and institutional walls.

Mélika’s main research interests are informed by her social and pedagogical concerns regarding marginality and resistance. Most recently, Mélika co-designed an online climate action-focused visual arts curriculum at University of Toronto Schools leading into the COVID era; collaborated with a team at the University of Waterloo to assess the learning that occurs with arts-based pedagogy; wrote an educator’s guide on how to use Theatre of the Oppressed techniques to rehearse self-advocacy at the border, and was commissioned by the Just Recovery(ies) Workshop Team at Wilfrid Laurier University to artistically unify participants’ visions of a Just Recovery.
